Check the manual on that one. You may need to use a jumper to allow the timing to be changed. Check to see if there is a wire right below or connected to the distributor that has a cap on it. Open it up and you might see a 2 connector plug. That might be the place to put the jumper, but don't just go ahead and do it until you read the service manual on that one and figure out where the right procedure and the right setting. does the tachometer jump around before it shuts off? if so i fixed this by replacing the distributor.
Ignition wires and the distributor cap need to be checked for cracks that allow cross flow of electricity from one wire to another. At night spray water on the wires and cap to see the sparks while engine is running. Replace wire set and cap as needed..

A repair manual should say at what degree to time it. If you don't have a manual and you want to set it "by ear" do this: Slightly loosen the hold-down bolt on the distributor just enough so you can be able to rotate the distributor. Start the motor and let it warm up to normal operating temperature. Manually slowly rotate the distributor clockwise and/or counter clockwise until you get the best "purr" of the engine. Tighten the hold-down bolt.
Distributor is installed off a tooth, or wires are on the wrong spots.
Usually, NO.
counterclockwise
Rotate engine to TDC Intake Stroke Remove Distributor cap Remove vacuum line to vacuum advance if equipped Remove horsehoe type clamp on side of distributor Lift out distributor
It takes about .9 of an hour to change regardless of which engine you have.(book time) it is located on the distributor, you have to remove the distributor to check it and/or replace it.
The distributor is on the front of the engine.

no the gear stays in place , unless you take the timing gear cover off + the bolts that hold it to the cam shaft.no it won't change the position either unless you crank the engine, the gear stays in place.
7mgte doesnt have a distributor. it has coil packs. only 7mge has distributor
buy a new distributor cap and rotor. Unscrew the distributor cap (on the drivers side of the engine block), take note how the existing rotor is sitting, remove it, and place the new rotor in the same position. Put on the distributor cap and screw it into place... very simple job. thats how you change the rotor......he asked about the distributor....try again.
It is on the rear of the engine, next to the distributor. It is on the rear of the engine, next to the distributor.
The cam sensor is part of the distributor, the entire distributor needs changed. You can not get the cam sensor separately.
