What could go wrong tuning up a 1985 Ford Ranger as it was running fine but after giving it a tune up it will turn over but not start the firing order is right on the engine?

No, the firing order is wrong, you'll have to redo it Again there is no mention of which engine you are referring to. So go here: http://autorepair.about.com/library/firing_orders/bl-Ford-firing-85.htm Pick the correct engine and you will see the correct plug wire routing.
