While most African decolonization took place later, there were some countries that won their independence in the 1940's. Burkina Faso gained separate territorial status from France in 1947, a prelude to independence. Libya's Italian occupation and colonization also ended in 1947.

Only Libya got indendence in that time frame (1951). The next were Morocco, Tunisia, and Sudan in 1956. However, there were several African countries that were already independent by 1945: Ethiopia, Liberia, South Africa (apartheid), and Egypt (kingdom-until 1954).
