In our towns ELEMENTARY school the French and English students has different timetables, different floors, and there not allowed to use the library at the same time because the French and English students are not allowed to interact. instead of forcing the English or French to sit at the back of the bus, they have completely different bus' for the same route and school. It may not be a black/white segrigation but it is still alive! We are teaching our children the same thing we are trying to stop.Help us stop it!
Segregation in the United States began when freed Black slaves found out that even in the Federal Northern States were not allowed to vote or hold public office.
Despite the fact that most people in the US's Northern States believed that slavery was a social evil, they did not view freed slaves as equals, thus the laws preventing even freed slaves the civil rights enjoyed by people in the North.
Taking another approach, it can be said that the introduction of slavery in the USA was indeed segregation as slaves were considered property and were "segregated" from the main stream of American society.
In the United States, segregation began in 1849. Segregation in public schools was ended in 1954, and in 1964 it was ended across the board.
