Roman Catholic Answerfrom Encyclopedia of Catholic Devotions and Practices by Ann Ball, Our Sunday Visitor, Inc. C 2003

October Along with May, one of the two months during which a particular devotion is shown to the Virgin Mary.

In October, she is invoked under the title of Our Lady of the rosary and so it has been called the month of the Rosary. In 1868, Pope Pius IX indulgenced October devotions, and Pope Leo XIII extended the custom of such services of all parish churches to pray for the normalization of relations between the Holy See and the kingdom of Italy after the final disintegration of the Papal States. Although the Lateran Pacts of 1929 between the Holy See and Italy brought an end to the stated obligation to hold such services, the custom continued.

How do some churches celebrate the crowning of Mary?

It is the declared solemn dogma of the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church that Mary, upon her death, was not suffered to see bodily corruption but was assumed, body and soul, into Heaven, where she is with God. The Litany of Our Lady (the Litany of Loreto) calls her Queen (of Angels, Saints, Prophets, Martyrs, etc) and it is the pious belief of the faithful that she is the Queen of Heaven, presiding over the Heavenly court with her Son, Christ the King. There is a feast of the Queenship of Mary in the Catholic calendar. Mary is often depicted wearing a crown, and certain images of the Blessed Virgin are solemnly crowned, as a ceremony of veneration towards the Mother of God, the Queen of Heaven. The Coronation of Mary as Queen of Heaven is one of the Mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary, one of the mysteries of faith that are meditated upon whilst saying the prayers of the Rosary, counting them with each bead. In Catholicism, each month is dedicated to one particular devotion of faith. The month of May is the Month of Mary, when her many contributions and actions are particularly remembered. It is a traditional ceremony, often performed during the month of May by the children of the parish, to crown an image of Mary with flowers, as an act of love towards the mother of the faithful.

The sum of Mary's age and her mother's age is 36 Mary's mother is five times older than Mary How old is each person?

If we assign each person Mary and her mother a variable to represent each, we will have 2 variables with 2 unknowns. Let's make Mary = X and her mother = Y. The sum of Mary's age and her mother's age is 36, therefore sum of X + Y = 36. Mary's mother is five times older than Mary, therefore 5X = Y. X+Y=36 5X=Y Substituting 5X for Y yields, X+5X=36 Solve for X yields 6X=36 or 6X/6 = 36/6, so X = 6 Solving for Y, 5X=Y or 5(6)=Y, so Y=30 Mary is 6 and her mother is 30.

Why is the Hail Mary important to Roman Catholics?

Because Mary is the mother of Jesus, and Jesus is God. We don't worship her, we just talk to her and ask her to ask Jesus to help us.Roman Catholic AnswerThe Blessed Virgin Mary was given to each of us as our mother when Jesus, on the Cross, gave her to each of us in his disciple, John. She is the mediatrix of grace. Jesus is the Mediator of all grace, and only He is our savior. But God has decreed that each of us is to be a mediator in our own way, for instance when we pray for a family member in trouble. Mary is mother of Our Blessed Lord, and mother of the Church, so in a very real way, we turn to her and ask her intercession as she is the first intercessor after Jesus. This is most clearly prefigured in the Old Testament, in the Queen Mother, who was mother of the King and would intercede with the King. The Hail Mary is the primary prayer given to us to ask her intercession.

How do you know which stones to have put into a mother's ring?

Birthstones are different for each month of the year. The site Birthday Gems has a list of each month and the stone that corresponds with it. You would need to find out the months of birth, and then match the stones.

Why is Mary the month May?

By tradition, the Catholic Church dedicates each month of the year to a certain devotion. In May, it is the Blessed Virgin Mary. This devotion rose among the Jesuits in Rome in the late 18th century and quickly spread throughout the western Church. By the time of Pope Pius IX's declaration on of the dogma of Immaculate Conception in 1854, it had become universal. May crownings and other special May events in honor of Mary, such as public recitation of the Holy Rosary, stem from this time. The Hail Holy Queen (also commonly known by its Latin name, Salve Regina) is one of four special anthems to the Mother of God that have traditionally been part of the Liturgy of the Hours, and which vary depending on the season. The prayer is also commonly said at the end of the Rosary and in morning prayers. But there's an indication of May having been the month dedicated to Mary much earlier than the 18th century.
