This appears to be a movie fiction. Phiz was a slang expression for the writer Charles Dickens- co-incidentally a favorite of the Keller family though he was deceased at the time Helen came along. Phiz was also a cartoonist who did Dickensian themes ( such as Scrooge and related characters) and the name was transferred- like Jeep or something- to Dickens! In much later life Miss Keller had an Akita Dog, she got it from Japan. This breed is not normally used in the Guide Dog for the Blind- or seeing-eye role.
Phiz, Helen Keller's faithful dog, helped her by providing companionship, protection, and emotional support. Phiz acted as Helen's loyal companion and constant source of comfort throughout her life.
