Henry the VIII is most famous because he married 6 times, and because he is Queen Elizabeth I's father (one of England's most successful monarchs).

King Henry also broke from the Catholic Church and created the Church of England through his struggel to annul or get a divorce his first marriage to Catherine of Aragon so as to commence his second marriage to Anne Boleyn.

In 1511 the Pope proclaimed a Holy League against France, however Henry used the new alliance spreading across the Holy Roman Empire to expand his empire. In November 1511 he signed the Treaty of Westminster with Spain which agreed to mutual aid against France in preperation for the War of the League of Cambrai. In 1513 Henry invaded France and defeated the French at the Battle of the Spurs. England was invaded by James IV of Scotland at the behest of Louis XII of France.

The Scots were defeated at the Battle of Flodden Field on the 9th of September 1513 and among the dead was the Scottish King, ending Scotland's involvement in the war and uniting England as one country.
