First of all there are several Queens bearing this prename. Mary I of England, the usual one called ( Bloody Mary) only reigned 5 years from l553-l558. She was the half-sister of Queen Elizabeth Tudor, who succeeded her. Mary was the daughter of Henry VIII and Katharine of Aragon, hence she was half-Spanish. Mary I was an ardent Roman Catholic and engaged in religious persecutions of the Protestants, which earning her the name Bloody Mary. Mary, Queen of Scots ( sometimes also called Bloody Mary) was the last Queen of Scotland. She was executed in l587 on order of Queen Elizabeth I. Hence the Bloody adjective here would refer to her own blood! Mary II was the Queen of the Royal Pair of William and Mary and died of natural causes-Smallpox, in l694. Queen Mary ( not usually numbered) l867-l953 was the consort ( spouse) of George V. So there you have it. The Ocean Liner Queen Mary was named in her honor.
