I assume your Question was directed regarding the US Army and Navy. During the war, the US raised INFANTRY divisions that were numbered 1 through 106, but a few of the numbers were not used. So there was NOT a total of 106 infantry divisions(see the link for a list). For example, numbers from 46 to 62 were not used. These Infantry Divisions also included the Airborn Infantry Divisions or the paratroopers and one Mountain Division. The Air Force was actually a sub-branch of the US Army or known as the US Army Air Corps. The Air Forces were divided up for service in different geographical regions and purposes. Some were medium bombers and some heavy; some were located in Europe and some in Panama Canal. The Air Forces were numbered as follows: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 1112, 13, 14, 15 1st , 2nd ,3rd, 4th,6thAir Forces were in US & Panama Canal. 8th, 9th, 12th, 15th Air Forces were in England, Europe and Italy. 5th, 7th, 10th 11th, 13th 14th Air Forces were in Pacific Theaterand Indo-China. Both were severe in different ways but more causalities were suffered in The European Front. It all depends on how you mean it. It's different depending on if you mean damage or deaths,etc.
Early World War II was a more European front with not much heavy resistance in the pacific until America got involved in late 1941. The war ended in 1945, with the Atomic bombings of the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
