How do you change brake pads on a 1997 Mountaineer?

Remove wheels Reinstall 2 lug nuts to hold rotor in place Remove caliper mounting bolts Look for a bleeder screw at the top of caliper( looks like a small bolt with a hole in it) carefully open the bleeder. Place a small hose over top of the bleeder and place the other end in a cup partly filled with break fluid. Remove the caliper Carefully use a large c-clamp to retract the piston in to the caliper Close the bleeder screw Remove and replace the pads (taking care to place the friction material side of the pads towards the friction surface of the rotor) Replace the caliper over the pads Insert and tighten the caliper mounting bolts Repeat for the other side Top off break fluid in master cylinder PUMP BRAKE PEDAL TO SET PADS AGAINST ROTOR PRIOR TO MOVING VEHICLE

How do you replace brake pads on 2002 ford explorer?

FRONT BRAKE PAD REPLACEMENT Jack up vehicle and remove the wheel. before removing the caliper , be sure to depress the piston into the bottom of its bore in the caliper with a large C- clamp to make room for the new pads. look behind the caliper and you should see two bolts holding the caliper on. remove the bolts, "DO NOT REMOVE THE BRAKE LINE", the caliper should pull free from the caliper mounting braket. DO NOT LET THE CALIPER HANG BY THE BRAKE HOSE". Separate the brake pads from the caliper mounting bracket." Remove the steel slippers from the upper and lower parts of the caliper mounting bracket. After doing the above You should be done with removal to install follow the above steps in reverse. The rear brakes are the same as the front brakes to replace. However the rear brake disc is also a disc / drum that houses the parking brake pads. The parking brake pads are behind the brake disc. you will have to pull the disc off to get to these brake pads. The removal of the parking brake pads requires more time and is a bit more difficult to replace. I would inspect the parking brake pads before removal and replace them only if needed.

What does a cracked brake caliper look like?

Look at the thing behind your wheel on top of brake rotor with brake pads in it-that's a caliper.

How do you remove calipers on 2005 Ford F-150?

I assume you are replacing brake pads? To remove the calipers you need to loosen the bleed valves on the top or back of the caliper (they look like a bolt with a hole in them and usually have a rubber cap). Next you compress the caliper with a C clamp and then tighten the bleed valve. Now remove the two bolts from the back (inside) of the caliper and it should fall off in your hand.

How do you remove rear rotors on 2001 Sentra SE?

You have to make sure the parking brake is not on. then unbolt the torque member that that the caliper is attached to. the bolt head faces down towards the ground. you can't see it of you're looking down at the caliper, you have to look at it from underneath. you'l l see the 14mm bolt you have to unscrew which will disconnect the caliper. You also have to un hook the parking brake cable from the spring that's attached to the caliper. Then you can loosen the the bolts that screw into the slider pins. you should be able to slide the caliper off. and then you can unbolt the caliper mounting bracket that attaches to the axle behind the plate. ( 2 bolts) Afterwards you should be able to bang/pull/ screw the rotor off. here a link: http://www.courtesyparts.com/betasite/sentra-b15u-2000-2006/genuine-Nissan-parts/brake/441-rear-brake/-c-2837_2838_2930_2932.HTML they have diagrams for everything. You should be able to find what you need.

Are the rear brakes for a Cadillac Catera drum or disc?

Disc. Remove the wheel. Look on the backside of the caliper and you will see the bolts that hold it. Pretty much the same as any other.

How do you change rear brakes on a 2005 Grand Caravan?

Large Allen wrench to take two bolts out from inside of brake. This allows the brake pads to come out with the top of the caliper. Inside pad snaps in, outside pad has catches that fit in holes in the caliper. Large spring should be reconnected after bolts are snugged. Quite simple once you've taken a look at it.

What does a brake caliper look like?

It looks like a hydraulic clamp. When hydraulic pressure is applied with the brake pedal, the caliper clamps the disc brake pads to the disc brake rotor to stop rotation.
