What do you do if you've been advised by your doctor to ask your boyfriend not to turn the bedside light on at 1 am which is when he goes to bed and reacted very badly walking out saying it was a lie?

I can see why you would be upset with him turning the light on until 1AM. Why does he need the light on when he goes to sleep? Perhaps you meant he stays up with the light on until 1 AM and you can't get to sleep? At any rate he's selfish! People go to bed for 3 things ... sex, illness or sleep. If he wants to sit up and read he can do that in another room and let you sleep. Make an appointment and have him see your doctor with you and let the doctor explain things better. It sounds like you have more problems then just the lamp issue going on here and both of you need to start communicating. There's trouble in your relationship and neither of you are dealing with it.
