yes you need to take some out to much oil is just as bad as not having enough oil. If you do not know how, take it to a mechanic. For $20, they'll change the oil and air filter. The proper way is to drain it from under the car and then dispose of the oil properly. Do not try to remove it via dipstick/the top of the engine.
