Union
Yoga is union of mind and body, a spiritual science of self realization. The root of yoga goes to India by an Indian sage PantaJali. Yoga comes from the Sanskrit word "yuj" which means to unite or to join. Even though, people tend to think that yoga is a series of exercises with twisted body poses, it is not so. Basically, it helps you to connect with your inner spirit, which is essentially divine and is connected to the universal spirit or God. Modern day puts a lot of stress on the human body. This causes a lot of life style problems like obesity, hypertension, high cholesterol, Diabetes etc. People usually go to doctors and take expensive drugs for treatment. But these methods are not only expensive but also harmful in the long run. Yoga offers the cheapest and harmless solution to this problem in the form of relaxation
Yoga is a series of postures or asanas as they're known which you do to increase your flexibility and inner core strength. But the asanas are not a random series of movements. Each yoga position is designed to increase and block the blood supply to your body organs. This means your organs get a surge of fresh blood and helps to eliminate toxins from your body.
The word "yoga" has at its root the dhatu 'yujir' = to yoke, to connect, to link. Thus yogaH (n, m) would mean "Uniting". At its core this Uniting is with the Atman (The Self) which is the substratum of all experience.
Yoga is also a philosophical system that arose in an effort to understand the path laid out by The Vedas, i.e. one of the Six Ancient Philosophical Systems of India.
In the Western world however, this word is treated synonymous with what are called as Yoga-asnanas mainly and some breathing exercises the prANAyAma- which are just some preparatory parts of the Eigh-fold Discipline of Yoga the so called aShTA~Nga yoga.
The word yoga by itself comes from the word Yuj, which means union. Some people misinterpret the meaning of this union to be a union of body, mind and Soul and they misguide people into doing physical gymnastics call asana or to do breathing techniques known as pranayama. While these may be two tiny parts of the overall system of yoga, the true Yogi or the one who practices yoga is one who lives ever united with God. There are four ways of Yoga, Karma yoga, Bhakti yoga, Gyana yoga and Dhyana yoga which means we can be united with God either through meditation, action, devotion or education. This is the true meaning of yoga, when we live in yoga, we live in union with the Divine, we are liberated from all misery and sorrow. And at death there is no rebirth as we are united with God.
