∙ 18y agoThe coil pack on a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire is located behind the air intake hose. Just behind where the air intake hose connects to the top of the motor is where the coil pack is on this vehicle.
There is no distributor cap on a Pontiac sunfire, only a coil pack. coil pack is located on the back of the engine.
To change the spark coil pack on a 1998 Pontiac Sunfire with a 2.4 engine, first disconnect the battery. Then remove the coil pack and spark plug. The spark plug should also be replaced with the new coil pack for best performance. Insert the new spark plug, then the new coil pack being careful not to bump any of the many other electronic parts. Then reconnect the battery.

it sounds like you need a new coil pack Or you could have two of the plug leads reversed. I'd check and make sure I have voltage at all 4 plugs before I bought a coil pack.

A malfunctioning coil pack can cause your 2001 Pontiac Grand Am to backfire. The more likely cause is a faulty fuel injector.
At the spark plugs. the long part of the wire goes on the plug and the L shaped end goes on the coil pack under the intake manifold which is between the engine and the firewall, but you also have to know the firing order at the plugs and at the coil pack.
