At 5 weeks LMP the average hCG level is: 18 - 7,340 mIU/ml. So your hCG level is completely normal at 650 mIU/ml.

Progesterone level during the first trimester is (on average) 9 - 47. A level of '6' at 5 weeks LMP maybe a little low or maybe completely normal for YOU! If you are not having any problems I would advice you to follow your doctor's suggestions or get a second opinion if you don't agree with him/her.

I you are having symptoms a retest done 72 hours after the first test should be concidered.

What hormone maintains viability of the corpus luteum?

The hormone hCG is produced from the syncytiotrophoblast cells of the developing embryo. This hormone is responsible for maintaining the corpus luteum during pregnancy for 3-4 months so that the corpus luteum continues to produce progesterone. Progesterone is needed to prevent a menstual cycle while pregnant. After 3-4 months, the placenta takes over the production of progesterone.

Why is the corpus luteum important to reproduction?

The corpus luteum produces progesterone during the time that the placenta is forming, about the first trimester. After the placenta is mature, it will continue to produce progesterone while the corpus luteum degenerates. Progesterone is an important pregnancy hormone. Pregnancy cannot continue without it.

Is progesterone safe to take if you may be pregnant?

I MUST put progesterone cream on my belly twice a day for my first trimester and up to about 20 weeks or my body can sustain the pregnancy. My doctor is the one who put me on it after multiple miscarriages. The placenta does not take over making the progesterone until about 13 weeks and my body does not produce enough of it until then. My OB specializes in high risk and i also see a doctor in the antenatal unit at a local area hospital. It can hurt!! If you have been taking pills for past 10 months when will i be pregnant if i stop it now?

In about 3-6 months normally the menstrual cycles regularise on stopping the pill. (it depends if it was a Progesterone only or Estrogen & Progesterone Pill) The menstrual cycles can return to normal maybe sooner, there have been cases documented of pregnancy in the first cycle itself. If you are too worried Visit your Doctor. He will be able to help you.

Why does menstruation stop during pregnancy?

Menstruation stops during pregnancy for a couple of reasons. First, the hormones that the corpus luteum (the place on the ovary where the egg came from) secretes include progesterone which stops the follicle stimulating hormone. Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) is what makes your ovary grow eggs and it stops because of the progesterone. Second, when the follicle stimulating hormone is not present, a new egg will not grow. Without a new egg to grow, ovulation will not occur and progesterone will not drop so your lining will stay put until you give birth.

Would you have problems with bleeding if you have low progesterone?

I started havng really bad cramps and a little brownish discharge. My doctor performed a series of tests and it turned out that my progesterone was low, 15.4. Then,my doctor put me on prgesterone vaginal suppositories. I go back next week to have my progesterone monitored. The answer is definitely YES! I had PCOS for many years because I had almost no Progesterone in my system. I use to miss periods for 4 - 6 months before I came on again. What bothers me is that your doc put you on Progesterone Vaginal Suppositories. This is not natural at all. What I would suggest is that you try Naturone which is a 100% natural cream. I started using this cream 2 months ago, and got a full period in less than two weeks after that. You can order this cream at www.naturone.com. There you will find all the information you need. Trust me, after 14 years of PCOS, this is the only product that works.I agree that it could be an issue with low progesterone. I also have PCOS and low progesterone with all my pregnancies. However, I think your doctor did the right thing by giving you the vaginal suppositories. I used them with my first successful pregnancy. The ones my doctor prescribed were very natural. It was pure progesterone and glycerin to give the progesterone their solid form. The suppositories are much better than the synthetic pills or gels that are inserted vaginally. Stay with the suppositories. It puts the progesterone right where it needs to be. I also had the same kind of spotting.

How long will morning sickness last for?

What is the hormone that maintains the lining of the uterus for a fertilized egg?

Progesterone is the hormone that maintains the lining of the uterus for the fertilized egg. The progesterone is produced by the corpus luteum for the first 8 weeks, before the placenta takes over its production.
