I have had to replace the heating control valve on a few fiestas, it is very common. It can be found on the bulk-head of engine bay just below wiper mechanism. Its got a plug on the side and two pipes in and out the other side. They are roughly ยฃ17 from Ford dealers, I would not advise getting one from a scrappy, cos the ones I've had from good scrappies tend not to last very long and were only a few quid cheaper than new one. They are really easy to replace, only tool you will need is mole grips to squeeze the rings around each pipe. Do it when the engine is cold.

Hope this helps

The heater control valve can stick open or closed, as it is operated by an electrical solenoid. Clean old valve, or a new one. Located under bonnet, near bulkhead

Replace {Thermostat}, It is in a closed posistion and is unable to open. Another cause as with the Futura (1.3 Fiesta year 2000) is a valve between the heater and engine, the Thermostat shows normal operating therefore replacement is not needed.

Under the bonnet, under the heater motor filter. It's difficult to get to and requires removing the filter unit. Mk4

If there is an issue with your Ford Focus heater that blows intermittently it is a sign that the blower needs to be replaced or cleaned. A certified mechanic can do a diagnostic check to verify and make the necessary repairs.

I'm not a mechanic / technician but I was looking at fordparts.com and comparing the heater cores for the 1996 Ford Explorer and the 2000 Ford Explorer and they show the same part number ( so apparently the answer would be YES )
