The oil pressure indicator is just that. It shows that oil PRESSURE inside the oil journals of the engine is up to the proper level. The oil is pressurized with a mechanical pump, and the oil is pumped through the engine. The pressure is necessary to keep bearings, hydraulic lifters and sometimes timing chain adjusters functioning properly. When the engine is not physically turning, there will be no oil pressure because the pump is not running, so it's perfectly normal and expected that there is no oil pressure when you first turn on the key. Or, in layman's terms, it means your "Oil" light is still working and your Jeep has enough oil in it.....
The security light comes on after you changed the keys in the ignition from the off position to the on position as a confirmation that the electrical components in the dash board are working. It is nothing to be concerned about.
The oil light in a Jeep Liberty can be reset. To reset the light turn the ignition switch on or off without starting the engine. Next depress the acceleration pedal at least three times and then switch the ignition switch in a locked position.
Yes, the ignition switch must be in the ignition position -not- the accessory position.
I feel it does being it is that new. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position. If a yellow light comes on saying abs, then it does.
what to do when the malfuction light comes on?
If you have a key that is already programmed to your Outlander, use that key first. Place it in the ignition and turn to the "on" position five times. A light should come on your dash (looks like a car with a key inside). Once that light comes on, turn to the off position, remove your first key the place the "new" or unregistered key in the ignition and turn to the "On" position (not start). This should program your key to your Outlander.
Turn igniton to on position and put odometer in trip mode, turn off ignition. Hold trip button in and hold it in as you turn ignition to on position, it will flash Turn off ignition. Maintenance light should go and stay off
Reset the light by following the procedure below: 1. Turn the ignition key to the "OFF" position. 2. Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position while holding down the trip meter reset button.
With the ignition switch in the off position, press and hold the odometer reset button while at the same time turning the ignition to the on position. After a few seconds the maintenance required light will go out.
Have vehicle scanned to determine the problem
"Check Engine" light comes on when you turn ignition switch on and should go off when engine cranks.
This light comes on about every 5000 miles or so to remind you to change the oil. Reset as follows: with the ignition switch in the off position, hold in the the trip odometer. Now turn your key to the on position and you will see a series of zeros or dashes begin to appear. Once that stops, your maintenance light will be reset.
