On my 1995 Ford Explorer the lower radiator hose connects to the waterpump
on my 4.0 liter OHV , V6 engine ( the 8th " character " of the VIN is an " X " )
Yes it is on the lower radiator hose where it connects into the engine block, follow that disconnect it (careful of coolant leaking) thermostat housing should be below that hose. Good luck

Follow the lower radiator hose to the block. The thermostat is under the housing the lower hose hooks to.

I'm pretty sure it goes from the top of the radiator to the engine block.

Behind the alternator on the block. Just follow the lower radiator hose on the passenger side of the radiator to the housing.
