EX-L means it is an EX with leather interior. I know that sounds stupid, but that is what Honda told us when my mother purchased her EX-L. The badging still shows EX though!

It is just Honda's designation for their top of the line model.
The Honda Accord EX is the top of the line Accord. The Accord comes is various trim levels starting with the DX. From there you move up to the LX, LX-V6, and finally the EX. Only Honda knows for sure exactly what the letters EX stand for, if they stand for anything. It may be that Honda just uses the term EX to describe their best car, or it may mean Extra. This is a guess, but before i did my reseach and found this page, i convinced myself a good term would be Exclusive!
In the past there have been DX, LX, EX, EX V6, SE, SEi, sedans, coupes, and station wagons of the Accord models sold in the U.S. The new 2013 Honda Accord comes in Sedan, Coupe, and Hybrid models. There is also the Accord Crosstour. The 2013 Accord models are LX, Sport, EX, EX-L, Plug-In, and Touring. The Crosstour models are EX, EX-L, EX-L V6, and EX V6
Do i drive my Accord EX 2001 in D3?
I have a 2005, 4cylinder, EXL. I get about 21 mpg around town and usually between 27 and 29 mpg highway ( I usually drive about 70-75 mph on the highway). Obviously, with the A/C off, it does better than with climate control or A/C on.
Transmission has a problem. Take it to a professional.

These are just Honda's way of designating trim levels. The DX is the base model and is the cheapest. The LX adds some options and is more costly. The EX is the top of the line fully loaded car. The EXL adds leather.
