The Union Flag (or Union Jack) is made up of the flags of England, Scotland and Ireland. Thus the red horizontal & vertical cross is from the English flag, the white diagonal cross comes from the Scottish flag and the red diagonal cross comes from the Irish flag. The blue back ground comes from the Scottish flag.
