This answer refers to the "BRAKE" warning light -
Hi there I have a 2000 Windstar LX, I had the same symbol on my van its a red light and its located in the center of the speedometer. A mechanic i spoke to told me mine had something to do with my brakes and i should "take it in right away", But before I spent any money at the Ford Garage I checked the brake fluid level , and although It seemed ok I added some ( what a hassle to try and get it in the master cylinder, use a funnel with a long skinny neck) anyway i added about 100ml ... and no more light. Best of luck ......Denise
The symbol is supposed to look like a cutaway view of a tire (look closely and you'll see the tire treads at the bottom of the "U"). It indicates a low tire pressure condition.
The Windstar has a sensor that monitors wheel speed. If a tire is under-inflated, it will naturally rotate at a different speed than the other tires. This causes the warning light to light.
The light also may come on if you have recently replaced a tire. There is a reset button at the base of the steering column, next to the interior light/dashboard light dimmer switch. While the vehicle is moving, press and hold it for 3 seconds to reset.
NOTE - All the dashboard symbols are illustrated and explained in the Owners Manual - see "Related Questions" for free, downloadable copies of Owners Manuals
It's a tire pressure light. Your tire pressure is off.
Low tire
When the exclamation symbol comes on on your dashboard it means there is something in your engine that is not functioning properly. Unfortunately, to find out what the malfunction is, you have to take your vehicle to a mechanic. They have diagnostic tools to find out what the problem is.
You have a tire low on air.
Low tire pressure.
Yes
I believe that it means your tire pressure is low.
If the symbol resembles a a U with an exclamation point and there are square ridges on the bottom of the U that means you have Low Tire Pressure. If the symbol is a complete circle and resembles a sun with an exclamation point in the center it means it is a exterior light that has burned out. All these warning lights & symbols are illustrated and explained in the Owners Manual. See "Related Question" for a handy pdf version of any Owners Manual from 1996 on.
your power stearing fluid is low or the power steering system is bad.
Warning light symbols on the dashboard of a vehicle warn of problems to the driver. For example, the warning light symbol of an exclamation on a Lexus 350 dashboard means the tire pressure is low.
You have a soft tire. Check all the tires for correct air pressure.
On a 2001 Ford Windstar : That warning light means that one of your exterior bulbs has burned out ( the warning light between the door ajar warning light and the low engine coolant warning light , located in the lower right area of your gauge cluster )
