Ear wax is there to line the skin that is present in the ear leading up to the ear drum. The wax keeps the skin supple and prevents the skin drying and cracking. Obviously, if the wax builds up too much, it could effect the hearing. If so, the ears can be medically syringed and excess wax removed, restoring hearing.
External ear contains ear canal.

These problems include:Infections with swelling that shuts the ear canalForeign bodies in the earAn injuryBirth defectsA growth in the ear canal
Open fit ear hearing aids are extremely small and nearly invisible to an observer. Essentially, open ear hearing aids are small units that sit up on top of and behind your ear. here is no earmold to occlude the ear canal when open fit hearing aids are worn - the clear tube is extremely thin and leaves the canal open. The biggest benefit to open fit digital hearing aids is that they minimize occlusion. Open ear hearing aids sit up high on your ear and are placed in the back of your ears. They do not block the ear canal, contrary to traditional hearing aids.
If you jam a q-tip into your ear and perforate (put a hole in) your eardrum, then you will experience severe pain and will lose hearing. Another way a q-tip in the ear could cause hearing loss is if it pushes wax further into your ear and blocks your ear canal.
In the Canal hearing aids are recommended for mild hearing loss as they are less visible in the ear, they are moulded to your ear shape and are very good for telephone use.
