The back end. Most car starters turn counter clockwise
Turn them counter clockwise with a 15mm wrench.
Loosen the bolt holding the distributor in place, and turn the distributor counter clockwise. If it bucks the starter, it is too far advanced.
reverse solineoid leads
You will need a reverse rotation cam and lifters, reverse rotation front a rear main seals, reverse rotation distributor, and a reverse rotation starter.
Sounds like the starter solenoid is stuck. Another possibility is the ignition key switch is not automatically returning from the start to run position. As the switches get older they seem to get stiff. Could be a weak spring in the switch or just gummed up lubricant. The easy test is to try turning the key counter clockwise after starting the engine and see if the starter motor stops running.
If you have a new starter with solenoid,do you still wire it to the firewall solenoid switch?Because wire is smoking on the switch and battery terminals. No rotation, just clicking.
Assemble and place the starter keylock
If the starter does not turn then it could either be bad or not getting power. If a volt meter can not be used to determine that voltage is present, then the starter can be pulled and taken to be tested.
You will have to remove the starter housing to determine if it is the starter mechanism or the engine. Normally the starter mechanism is not too difficult to repair. But if it is engine could be very bad news.
When you turn the engine over with the starter, which way does it turn? That is the direction it rotates.
Begin by removing the positive cable from your 1995 Saab battery. Remove the cables from the front of the starter. Remove the starter retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install your new starter.
