Steam engines have 1 valve per cylinder. I have never heard of a gasoline engine with 1 per cylinder, but many 2 stroke motors have no valves at all........

What is the Valve adjustment procedure on 3054 caterpillar?

The valve adjustment procedure, on a 3054 Caterpillar diesel engine, begins with manually turning the engine to the number one cylinder. Tighten the valve screw with the cylinder at the top of the stroke. Doing this for each cylinder.

What is the purpose of a car valves and what is the difference between a 12 valve and a 16 valve engine?

Close one hole of your nose and try to breath in. Feel any difference. Coming back to the subject. By increasing the # of valves you get the below features. a) better combustion chamber shape, resulting in better combustion, resulting in better power and fuel economy. There are intake valves and exhaust valves. On the intake side, the intake valve opens which lets the fuel/air mixture into the combusion chamber. At some point (measured in degrees of crank rotation) the intake valve closes, the air/fuel mixture is compressed and ignited by the spark plug. Then the spent mixture exits the cylinder when the exhaust valve opens. Valve configuration varies somewhat, but regardless of how many valves there are there will always be at least one intake and one exhaust valve. Some cylinder heads have 2 intake and 2 exhaust valves which is what is described as the 4-valve per cylinder setup. As the first two responders pointed out, you have intake valves, which let air in a diesel, or air plus gas in a gasoline engine, into the cylinder; and exhaust valves, which let the spent gases leave the cylinder. One important thing multiple valves can do for you is to let the spark plug be put in the center of the cylinder, from where the flame front can radiate evenly through the chamber. A 16-valve engine (if it's a 4-cylinder) has two intake and two exhaust valves. A 16-valve engine could also be an 8-cylinder engine with 1 intake and 1 exhaust valve per cylinder. A 12-valve engine has two intake and one exhaust valve (if it's a 4 cylinder engine). a 12-valve engine may also be a 6-cylinder engine with 1 intake and 1 exhaust valve per cylinder. evan was here

Does a two stroke engine have only one valve per cylinder?

Some two stroke engines have 4 valves, Detroit Diesel 71 series and 53 series engines for example. Most small 2 stroke engines have no "Valves" at all in the sense of the "POP" valve used in four stroke engines. Some people feel these engine has one valve because the piston acts as the valve covering the ports cut into the cylinder walls.

What does valves per cylinder do?

Valves per cylinder makes one's engine more powerful or less powerful. A engine that has 2 valves per cylinder is better that a engine that has only one.

Pcv valve location on a 1999 Mazda b3000?

On a 1999 Mazda B3000, the PCV valve is in one of two places, depending on the engine. On SOHC 4-cylinder engines, the PCV valve is mounted on the oil separator on the left side of the engine. On DOHC 4-cylinder engines, the valve is behind the coolant bypass hose..

Dual springs on cylinder heads vs single springs what's the purpose of dual springs?

There is one spring for each valve, if there are two intake and two exhaust valves per cylinder there will be twice as many springs per cylinder compared to an engine with one intake and one exhaust valve per cylinder.

Where is the coolant temperature sending unit on a 1999 Ford E150 6 cylinder and is there more than one?

There is only one coolant temperature sensor on a 1999 Ford E150 6 cylinder. The sensor is on the front of the engine just below the valve cover.
