SHOULD BE, BUT YOU CAN CHECK YOUR LOCAL JUNK YARD FOR VEHICLES TO ASK THEM IF THEY INTERCHANGE, I AM SURE THEY WILL.
I remember the mid 70's Jeep had a 6 cylinder 258
Both the 258 and the 4.0 are the same size externally.
The 1984 258 cubic inch engine rocker arm bolt torque specification is 30 pounds. You should torque the rocker arm bolts in 15 pound intervals.

Yes! The intake should be the same for all of the 258 motors.
Yes, with some research............... The bell housing bolt pattern for all Jeep 304/360/401 V8s and straight six 232/258/242 is the same. The bell housing from a straight 6 (242/258) from 1983-86 will bolt to any Jeep post 63 v8. But, the crank shaft pilot shaft holes are many diffrent sizes. So, you need to measure the pilot hole; and be prepared to be creative in finding a bearing. NOT: You are not restricted to Jeep t-5; and can also use the othrr ford and Chevy verions; but you need to measure the pilot shaft length. Try the T5 from the 4cyl mustang; it has the right pilot shaft length and the first gear ratio is 4:1 rather than 3:1 on a T5 for a V8. .
Should be the 258 cid I6
6:oo position on cap
The spark plug gap for a 1984 258 6 cylinder Jeep should be set at .033 inches. New spark plugs will be preset and should not need adjustments.
You have to use the bell housing from a Chevy "IronDuke" engine that was used in the jeep cj's for a few years. It will allow you to bolt a Chevy 350 engine inline with the ford t90 transmission. The Iron Duke was the Chevy engine used "Before" the amc designed their own 4 cylinder which used another bell housing that WILL NOT work for your purpose. Good Luck in changing out your engines and finding that bell housing, it's very hard to find one!
no a 258 amc and ford 302 have same bolt pattern
