I have always used a variable strap wrench for oil filters. This way you can do many with one cheap tool.
You can remove it and clean the filter inside it or you can replace it.
Usually, there is a cylinder shaped canister near the pump. You have to remove top and lift filter out and clean thoroughly with hose.
I just read that you remove the filler cap and then the large plastic shroud will lift up. The filter is in a canister on the side of the engine to the front. The filter is an insert, into the canister, not like the old spin ons.
On the top of the engine you have to remove that cover that says 3.6L and below it you'll see a plastic canister which is plastic and you'll see a plastic nut on the top of it. Remove that nut and you'll pull out the actual filter, once again this is considered a canister not your conventional metal oil filter.
Canister purge valve is located under the air cleaner assembly, remove the aircleaner and the airintake hose, remove air filter, underneath in air cleaner housing are 2 7/16 nuts, remove and take housing out. canister is underneath. valve closes to canister is the purge solenoid.
Driver side of motor you will see a canister with I think 1 1/4 nut on cap remove cap remove fuel filter replace with new filter reinstall cap. Remember to remove filter slowly
The oil filter is on the drivers side of the engine. It fits into a canister, using a 24mm wrench to remove.
Undo the clamp on the oil filter canister, remove the oil filter element, (never figured out a not ghetto way to do this) vacuum out the oil at the bottom of the canister with a wet/dry shop vac, put new filter element in and put new oil into the canister. Put the top back on securely and tighten the clamp back down.
looking at the engine ,the fuel filter is located in a plastic canister ,it is to the right side of the engine ,it looks like a canister about the size of a large soup can it is plastic ,you will see it has a 1 1/8 inch nut on top . make sure engine has been sitting cold for a bit ,remove filter by removing top of canister by unscrewing counter clockwise ,filter is attached to lid of canister ,remove filter replace with new and in reverse order put back in , prime engine prior to starting .
Raise hood. Using your hands, remove the plastic engine cover. Look to the side of the engine for a canister that hangs down. This is the filter. Remove the large plug on top of the oil filter cartridge with a large socket wrench. Pull up on the plug and the filter will come up with it. Replace the oil filter cartridge and put the oil cartridge back into the canister.
The shop manual shows it under the air box and charcoal canister which have to be removed prior to changing the gas filter. Loosen the union bolt on top of the gas filter. Next you have to go under the car to remove the inlet line which a extension bar from the ratchet wrench is needed and then a crow foot wrench about four inches to remove the bolt. Finally, it is two bolts to remove the gas filter.
The fuel filter is inside of a screw on canister that screws onto the fuel pump which is next to the oil filter on the drivers side of the engine. You will find it difficult to remove if it has been some years since the filter was last replaced. The fuel canister threads will weld themselves to the fuel pump and it will require the replacement of the pump along with the filter canister. Good thing is that the entire pump and filter/canister assembly cost around $35 from NAPA AUTO PARTS - Part Number: NFP M4008.
