John Adams grew up in Boston which was a hot bed of revolutionary activity. He was involved in the American Revolution from its beginning and served as a leading diplomat for the revolutionary government in Europe. He helped draw up the new Constitution of the United States and was virtually unanimously chosen as the first vice-president of the US. When disputes over the role of the new federal government arose, he favored a strong central government and became the natural champion of that position.
John Adams became president in March of 1797.
Never. John Adams Senior never became president. The John Adams who became the second president was John Adams Jr, or John Adams the second. John Quincy Adams, the 6th US president, was John Adams Senior's grandchild.
