The fate of the colonists is unknown. There are many theories including their having moved south to merge with the friendly natives, moving west on to the mainland, moving north to the Chesapeake Bay. Some may have tried to sail back to England. We just don't know.
The Jamestown colony in what is now Virginia began badly. There was disease, lack of clean water, and an inability to properly grow food. Also, the first colony developed a dreadful relationship with the American Natives causing conflict and bloodshed.
In the 1400's there was an attempt in Newfoundland and then in 1584 Roanoke Island. Roanoke is most commonly considered to be the first attempt depending on the historian.
it blew up
The English Government had very little money. The English people had no compelling reason to migrate to America. At the time, Spain and England were allies. Any attempt to settle America would have upset the alliance.
Imperial England and the English soldiers developed a contemptuous attitude toward the 'natives' because of their attempt to colonize the ruthless, Catholic Irish peoples.

The first attempt to colonize America at first seemed like all was going well. When a ship was sent back to England to get more supplies, something strange happened. When the ship came back, everyone was gone. no bodies were found, and there were no bloodstains on the ground indicating they had been shot, ect. This still remains a mystery today.~rachel, 13Illinois

Because you touch yourself at night.
It disapeared
The first English attempt at colonization was in Newfoundland in the early 1400s. The leader was killed at sea thus the colony withered away. The next English attempt at colonization was at Roanoke NC. This settlement mysteriously vanished. Spain tried to colonize areas in the Carribean and Mexico in the 1510s. Columbus "founded" America in 1492 sailing for Portugal. The first people in America were the Norweigan Vikings in the 11th century. The Portuguese Colonial Empire was the first European global empire in history. It was the longest-lived of the modern empires, spanning almost six centuries, from the capture of Ceuta (South of Gibraltar and now Spanish) in 1415 to the handover of Macau in 1999.
