With no artillery shells to feed their cannons; with no fuel to feed their jets; etc. etc. the South was defeated by the on-rushing NVA in April 1975.
US Congress had cut off the money to send ammo & fuel to RVN.
The US Military left jets, tanks, artillery, etc. in RVN...but they're pretty worthless with-out gas and ammo!
The North rolled their tanks onto the South's (Capital) front lawn!
North Vietnam very quickly broke the peace treaty they had signed, invaded South Vietnam, and defeated it.
No more North & South Vietnam; just Vietnam.
US Air Force/Navy bombers remained for abit. When they left (and the NVA knew it) the NVA invaded the south with a combined tank/infantry assault. They successfully captured the south on 30 April '75.
Vietnam has never had a democratic government, so nothing has ever happened to this non-existent entity. If you are referring to the Republic of Vietnam (often called South Vietnam), which was a regime in the south of Vietnam from 1954-1975, this country was not a democracy. Although it has the word "Republic" in its name, it was really a state ruled by a strongman who was deeply beholden to US interests. As for what happened to this country, when the US withdrew military forces from Vietnam in 1973, the North Vietnamese Army overran the defenses of South Vietnam and conquered the country, bringing Vietnam into united Communist rule.
When the south fell, and every last US serviceman departed South Vietnam (what was left of it); President Ford was the President of the United States.
The Northern Communist part of Vietnam came out victorious, they declared Independance and even to this day they could still be partly Communist

After the US withdrew from Vietnam the Vietcong came into power. South Vietnam fell under communist rule by the Vietcong.
The answer is (A) Because the North Vietnam took over the South Vietnam
North defeated the South.
The last U.S. forces left South Vietnam in 1973. The US Embassy was evacuated and the last advisers pulled out in April 1975.

South Vietnam was considered an ally of the US.
South Vietnam greeted the GI's with open arms. North Vietnam was never invaded by US forces (however, it was heavily bombed).
