The gas will increase the pressure from the inside. This usually causes both ends of the tin to bulge out and become rounded. Eventually, a weak spot will allow the gas to escape, usually along the seals of the tin.

Bacteria or mold grows in the caqn giving of the gasses and producing byproducts that may be harmful or dangerous to ingest (eat). The pressure of the gasses may cause the can to swell and even burst at some point.
