This is a description of the general class of macromolecule called a triglyceride.
1 glycerol molecule and 3 fatty acid molecules.
A triglyceride with one fatty acid bound to a glycerol backbone has a structure where the fatty acid is attached to one of the three hydroxyl groups on the glycerol molecule. This forms an ester bond between the fatty acid and the glycerol, creating a molecule with a glycerol backbone and one fatty acid chain attached.
Glycerol has 3 OH groups and a fatty acid has one carboxyl group. One mole of Glycerol reacts with 3 moles of fatty acid to give 3 moles of water and one of the glycerine tri-ester - more commonly called a triglceride.
Triglycerides (3 fatty acids + 1 gylcerol)
The monomers of triglyceride are glycerol and fatty acids. Glycerol is a three-carbon molecule with hydroxyl groups, and fatty acids are long hydrocarbon chains with a carboxylic acid group at one end. When these two components combine through dehydration synthesis, they form a triglyceride molecule with three fatty acid chains attached to the glycerol backbone.
The end products of fat digestion are fatty acids and glycerol.
Glycerol and 3 Fatty acids
Fatty acid, glycerol.
If 1 of the glycerol's OH groups is attached to a fatty acid it is a monoglyceride. If it is 2 or 3 then it is a di or triglyceride respectively. If there are 3 fatty acids and one gycleride, then the substance is namely a lipid.

Tripalmitin is a 16 carbon saturated fatty acid. Saponification is a reaction involving a strong base (ex: NaOH) and a fatty acid. The reaction yields a glycerol and 3 fatty acid salts. Therefore the reaction products are: glycerol: CH2(OH)--CH(OH)--CH2(OH) + 3 fatty acid salts: CH3--(CH2)14--COO(-) Na(+) + 3H2O Above is actually a summary of what is in reality a 2-step reaction: the fatty acid reacts with H2O first to yield a glycerol and 3 fatty acids; the fatty acids subsequently reacts with the alkaline (base) (NaOH) to yield 3 fatty acid salts and H2O
