it should after it's started
vacuum leak.
replace the alternator
sounds like you have a leaky intake manifold
First check your throttle body sensor and then your (iac) motor. Last but not least it could be your plenum gasket or a leak in your vacuum system
Actually there are many ways to tell if you have a bad cat. .A rotten egg smell coming out of the exaust .Hesitation and/or bucketing when acceleration takes places .Increase in engine running temp .A ratteling in the muffler as car idles .Car dying sparatically due to engine backpressure .Difference in temperature from the back of the converter to the front due to clogging
idling too fast - adjust choke
My 1990 idles at about 850 and with the ac on 1100
vacuum leak.
Broken/disconnected throttle cable
1994 Chevy suburban....no coolant leaks...but looses coolant is this an older car? does the car loose engine coolant?
you might have pulled a vacuum hose off
Need to know year and type of car including what motor please.
Defective alternator.
If a car starts and idles but does not accelerate can be numerous problems such as a malfunctioning throttle position sensor, fuel regulator, Manifold Airflow sensor or vacuum leak. A diagnostics test will reveal what is malfunctioning and needs to be repaired.
If you give the car gas and it immediately dies but idles without giving the car gas, the VAF could be unplugged. If the car immediately dies without giving the car gas, it could have low fuel pressure, vaccum leaks, compression issues.
replace the alternator
A vacuum leak is one possibility. More info on the vehicle would help.
