What if your heater only blows on low and medium it shuts off when turned on high?

The low and medium speeds run thru a resistor. The high speed runs thru a relay. The relay or possibly the switch itself may be bad.

Your probles lies in either the heater switch,to command the selinoid to shut down the valve for the hot coolent,or the selinoid its self.Some where along the line the valve that shuts down in the heater line,to stop the hot coolent from entering the heater core is not closing.May be the shut off valve it's self . As you say..Air is on ,and i still get hot air. so heater switch ,(from hot to cold),selonoid,shut off valve??
The temperature control module in your 1997 ford explorer 8 cylinder is constantly in high heat the switch for air flow works but if you switch to ac it blows hot air however the max ac blow cold air?
You have a broken temp blend door in your heater/AC case. The reason it blows cold when you switch to MAX is because in the MAX position, the heater control valve shuts off coolant flow through the heater core. You will need a new heater case, because the door is inside the case and is not available separately. You had better replace the blend door actuator as well, because that is what I have found is causing the door to break to bgin with. The stops wear out in the actuator so that it begins advancing too far in one direction or the other and it breaks the doors.

Check for a heater flow valve in the heater hose they can rust shut easily it is a valve in the heater hose that opens when you turn on the heat and shuts when its not in use, if not then probably the core is plugged a radiator flush might help but you may need to have it cleaned and repaired.
