A Pontiac is a car based off of an Indian name. They're really nice cars; we have one. Also, there is a city called Pontiac, MI.

The Pontiac Spring and Wagon Work was incorporated by Albert North in July 1899, and began producing one of the earliest trucks in the US by 1903. In 1902, however, they were producing the Pontiac highwheel car. In November 1908 merged with rival Edward Murphy's Oakland Motor Company under that name. By January the next year GM purchased 50% of the company and later that year acquired the remaining stock after Murphy died. OMC continued to manufacture the vehicles previously produced under that company name until 1926 when GM incorporated the name under the Pontiac badge.

Pontiac produced vehicles in the US, Canada, Mexico, South Korea, and Australia until December 2009 when the last vehicle was built at the Daewoo plant in South Korea.

After 83 years of production, the Pontiac name is no longer building cars.
