Marine Scientist salaries range based on your level of experience, degree, and your job description. A young marine scientist straight from undergrad can expect to only find tech jobs, and would make around 23-30K. A marine scientist fresh out of graduate school with a master's degree can expect to qualify for a wide range of jobs: Consulting Firm- $35-75K (depends on the company and what you do) Gov't Agency- $45K Non Gov't Agency (NGO)- $35-45K Academia (impossible w/o a PhD, you would likely be a lab manager) - $30-45K A marine scientist fresh out of graduate school with a Doctorate can expect to make similar ranges in salary based on job description. Consulting Firm- $50-80K Gov't Agency- $60-70K NGO- 45-50K Academia- 55-70K As a senior marine scientist in academia I know of professors who bring in wages of 80-130K, with some as high as 200k. Another thing to keep in mind is that as a scientist you have a very tangible skill. While you may have a set job, it is always a good idea to get into private consulting. You could easily add another 50-60K ontop of your base salary through private consulting. To be a private consultant, you generally have to have a PhD.
