It is the name that Subaru uses to describe the horizontally opposed engines used in their cars. That is, instead of a vee configuration used on must 6 and 8 cylinder cars, or an in-line as used on most 4 cylinders, the Subaru 4 cylinder engines have the cylinders lying flat, two on each side of the crankshaft. --Ken
Not sure what you mean by a free spinner engine. A boxer engine is an engine with two cylinders or a multiple thereof (eg 4 or 6 cylinders) that are horizontally opposed and the corresponding opposite pairs fire simultaneously As a result the boxer engine is one of the three engine types with a natural dynamic balance The other 2 being the V-12 and the straight-6. However on boxer engines with less than 6 cylinders there is a noticeable torque reaction, especially noticeable on BMW boxer engine motorcycles, due to the cylinders not being directly opposite but slightly offset from each other
It is an interference engine...

The Ferrari Berlinetta Boxer was built between 1973 and 1984
The Porsche Boxster was introduced in 1997. It derives its name from the engine style, a water cooled horizontally opposed engine, also known as a "boxer." Porsche simply combined "boxer" with "roadster" and came up with a unique name, Boxster.
BMW manufactured its first motorcycle in 1923, the R32, which featured a twin cylinder, horizontally opposed engine (the so called "Boxer" engine). BMW Motorrad still uses the flat-twin boxer configuration, but now also manufactures motorcycles with a variety of engine configurations.
boxer (as in underware) = boxer boxer (as in fighter) = boxeador
the boxer = der Boxer.
