piston slap is when the piston inside the cylinder is somewhat smaller than the cylinder bore. when the piston moves up and down, it ends up moving side to side too. this causes a knocking/slapping sound as the piston slams into the cylinder walls.
this can cause harm if the play between the piston and bore are significant, otherwise it's nothing to worry about. if the car is hammering you might want to take it to a garage.
Piston slap is the piston lose is the cylinder and it is making a rattling noise.
Hope this helps.
Do you mean piston slap? Noise like piston slap are repairable only by an engine rebuild.
The only way to fix piston slap is to replace them. Some oil additives will quiet them down some, there are several brands available.
no
are you sure is a valve noise?? or is a piston slap?
Engine internals worn Piston "slap" Rod "rap" Engine internals worn Piston "slap" Rod "rap"
Piston slap and timing chain related noises can be very similar. If it is a piston slap noise the noise may be louder during power braking and may quiet down as the engine warms up.
piston slap. very common
Yes
If you have to ask, forget it, it`s cheaper to buy a used motor at a junk yard. Are you sure it`s not piston slap making the noise. I`ve had piston slap for the last 70,000 miles and still running strong.
Look into piston slap
Bad engine bearing? Piston "slap" Fuel Octane rating too low
Not at all common, in fact very uncommon.
