A subchorionic hemorrhage (also called a subchorionic hematoma) is a fairly common event in early pregnancy where a small blood clot forms at the edge of the placenta and the amniotic sac. These clots are usually around 1cm in size, but can be either larger or smaller. These cannot be "caused" but rather reflect bad luck. Although there is a somewhat increased risk of miscarriage (and, in some studies, of pre-term birth), from everyone I know and read about almost all patients go on to have uneventful pregnancies. The bleeding usually stops, and the clot resolves on it's own.
i am not sure, i think my obstericain gave me the stats of 1% chance when it happened to me at 12. i bleed again at 24 weeks which added to the hematoma. i delivered a healthy 8pound12 baby three days before her dur date.
Actually, the bleeding behind the placenta at 7 weeks gestation is called a "subchorionic" hematoma. This happens sometimes in pregnancies when the fetus attaches to the uterus. This is not necessarily a primary indication of a placental abruption and most pregnancies with subchorionic bleeds resolve after a few weeks
Sadly none of has a crystal ball to be able to see into the future and answer your question. It can go either way. You can bleed more and eventually miscarry, or the bleeding can stop and you could go on to have a normal pregnancy. For now, we suggest complete bed rest and no sex. When you say he thinks this is the diagnosis, I hope he did an ultrasound to confirm his suspicion. By eleven weeks, the fetal heart should be visible and serial ultrasounds will show if things are getting better or worse. Good luck!
