a pintle position sensor tell the engine computer what the exact position of the egr valve is
This code indicates a problem with the EGR valve's pintle position. The EGR Valve's pintle could just be stuck in which case the problem could be fixed by cleaning the EGR valve. If the EGR valve is electronically controlled or cleaning the valve does not fix the problem, you will most likely have to replace the EGR Valve. Keep in mind that the EGR valve relies on inputs from other sensors to determine the pintle position. If one of these other sensors is not operating correctly, it could be giving you a false P1406 error code.
You have a problem with the EGR system, the pintle positon circuit.
Its inside the egr valve whether digital or conventional, its basically the door that opens up for emmissions and no2 mixtures.
Code 1406 is EGR Valve Pintle Position Circuit Error. As far as your EGR "pintle position" code is concerned. Your EGR valve is sticking or malfunctioning. Remove and CAREFULLY clean the EGR valve shaft and it's passages in the engine and reinstall with a NEW gasket. If this does not resolve the problem, replace the EGR valve.
Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve Pintle Stuck Open
It is best to replace it. The failure happens in the electrical part of the valve, not the pintle and seat.It is best to replace it. The failure happens in the electrical part of the valve, not the pintle and seat.
The sesor is located in the egr valve which is in the center of the engine, on top. just to the left of the thermostsat/heater hose entering the engine
this egr valve is a PCM (powertrain control module) controled pintle at the intake manifold. there is a thin tube running from the exhaust manifold around the firewall side of the engine to the EGR module?, this isn't a vacuum/sileniod controled EGR. It is a Linear control system, the pintle allows exhaust gas to flow based on the VSS(vehicle speed sensor) IAT(?) and coolant temperature sensor.Good luck
The EGR valve is sticking open You can remove and try to clean it but most likely you will have to change it. Cleaning rarely works. The code description is EGR pintle position error
The EGR valve is located below the carburetor on the intake manifold on the passenger side of the engine compartment. The EGR passageway runs from #1 exhaust port through the cylinder head and intake manifold. The EGR valve is controlled with engine vacuum that is modulated by a computer controlled solenoid. Mounted inside the EGR valve is a pintle position sensor, when the computer detects it is not moving when vacuum is applied the computer triggers a code for the EGR. Removing carbon build up and then reset the computer to bring the EGR back into normal operation. See attached link for diagram showing location.
Code p1404 is Egr pintle position error. If you remove the valve you will find it stuck closed or heavily carboned and sticking open You can try to clean it but most times it needs replacing
