In "To Kill a Mockingbird" the theme of prejudice is shown mainly through the minor characters of Boo Radley, Tom Robinson and Dolphus Raymond. Examples would be how the town of Maycomb has many different stories in how these people act even though they may not have even met them once. This could be how in Maycomb many people believe that one day when Boo was cutting out pictures from a magazine he stabbed his father. Or that Dolphus Raymond decides to live and have children with a coloured women because he's drunk all the time, although he's not, he just pretends to give them a reason. These are examples of prejudice. Scouts Aunt Alexandra was also prejudice. If you have ancestors who drank or were in to drugs she believed it ran in the family, so that everyone in that family had the same problem. She would think this even if she had never meet one of them in her life.

Also Aunt Alexandra is prejudice against Calpurnia because she says to Atticus "we don't need her now." (page 137) her reasoning is not because Cal is black its because Cal is a lower class person

One example of racism in "To Kill a Mockingbird" is the prejudice against Tom Robinson, a black man accused of raping a white woman. Despite evidence supporting his innocence, Tom is convicted solely because of his race in a segregated Southern town. This unjust treatment highlights the deeply ingrained racism in the society portrayed in the novel.

Well one of the racial issues in To Kill A Mockingbird was Tom Robinson's case. Atticus proved to everyone in the courtroom that Tom Robinson was innocent. But the jury still anounced him guilty because he was black. Everyone knew what they were doing was wrong but no one chose to stick up for him because they didnt want to step away from the towns predjudice ways.

There are several examples, including the fact that a black man is kissed by a white woman and is accused of sexually assaulting her. Tom Robinson is charged with, convicted and eventually he dies because he had the nerve to feel sorry for a white woman that needed some help around the house. Unbeknowst to him, she is setting him up for disaster.

Additionally, the next door neighbour, Boo Radley is kept a prisoner in his own home because of mental illness. He is shunned by society and even feared by the kids next door.

There are more ideas, but just to get the ball rolling.

Maycomb is an extremely prejudiced town, even thought when this book was based the black people had been released from slavery for over 70 years. Even so, the racism is still painfully clear as demonstrated in the timeless masterpiece, To Kill a MockingBird.

Not only is Maycomb prejudiced against the black people, they also are prejudiced against the way women should be, people with disabilities and the poorer families. Here are some vague examples:

"Well Dill, after all he's just a N*****." Startling words from Scout who should know better. Her Father is defending a black man in court, and yet the prejudice in Maycomb is so heavy that it even begins to affect her!

"He-is-trash, that's why you cant play with him!" Scout's auntie talking about a poor farmer's son who is white but is excluded from white society.

"You should be in a dress and camisole young lady!" An example of how Maycomb expected women to behave.

Finally, "Not only a Finch waiting on tables, but one in the courthouse lawing for N******!"

This book not only is about Maycomb's prejudice, but also how two young innocent children were forced to grow up and realize the harshness of the real world.

Examples of prejudice in TKM is when Lulu stated that Calpurnia had no business bring Atticus white children to a black church another one is Bob Ewell even though he is the lowest of the low he blamed his daughter being "beat up" on Tom Robinson a black man.

Reverend Sykes said, "Now don't you be so confident, Mr.Jem, I ain't never seen any jury decide in favor of a colored man over a white man." (pg. 221, To Kill A Mockingbird)

Robert Ewell: "You n***** lover"

---

Jem: "Atticus says cheating a black man is ten times worse than cheating a white."

---

Atticus: "As you grow older, you'll see white men cheat on black men every day of your life, but let me tell you something and don't forget it - whenever a white man does that to a black man, no matter who he is, how rich he is, or how fine a family he comes from, that white man is trash."

One example of racial segregation in "To Kill a Mockingbird" is when Calpurnia brings the Finch's to her church and Lula tells them they are not welcome at their church because they are "white chillun." The rest of the church welcomes them, though.
