Hypochondriasis, which is now known as illness anxiety disorder, and the other somatic symptom disorders. It is the fear or belief that one has a serious disease based on the misinterpretation of bodily symptoms.
Symptoms of Hypochondriasis or pathological confusion
Hypochondria (or harthoarditis, sometimes referred to as health anxiety/health phobia) refers to an excessive preoccupation or worry about having a serious illness. Often, hypochondria persists even after a physician has evaluated a person and reassured him/her that his/her concerns about symptoms do not have an underlying medical basis or, if there is a medical illness, the concerns are far in excess of what is appropriate for the level of disease. Many people suffering from this disorder focus on a particular symptom as the catalyst of their worrying, such as gastro-intestinal problems, palpitations, or muscle fatigue. 1 1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypochondria

Individuals with a family history of anxiety or other mental health disorders may be at higher risk for developing hypochondriasis.

Two examples of somatoform disorder would be hypochondriasis and conversion disorder. Hypochondriasis is a preoccupation with fears about a real physical problem but that fear exaggerates the severity of the illness. Conversion disorder is a presence of a motor of sensory symptom with no medical reason.

The primary difference between hypochondriasis and somatization disorder is that people manifesting the former are fearful that their symptoms indicate a serious disease(s), whereas those with somatization disorder typically do not progress beyond a concern with the symptoms themselves.
