The center shafts in all 4x4 transmission are longer then the shafts in a 2WD trans.
Does not matter what kind of transmission it is.
To change the center shafts you have to take trans. all the way apart.
Change the tail shaft of the tranismission from a 4WD tail shaft to a 2WD tail shaft and use a 2WD tail housing.... The 4WD transmissions has shorter tail shafts and tail hounsing, while the 2WD has a longer tail shaft and tail hounsing.
The transmission is not a 2wd or 4wd. There is way more to it than just changing transmissions or final drive units. This is a really bad idea. Sell this truck and purchase a 4wd. Look under a 4wd Chevy truck and compare it to your 2wd. You will easily see that the components necessary to convert a 2wd to 4wd are many. Forget this idea.
A 4L60 (NOT a 4L60E) from a 2WD pickup will work. It MIGHT be possible that you'll need to use the original bell housing from the Caprice, although I can't for sure that this is the case.
remove the transmission pan. then remove the filter.
Yes it will.
4L60E Transmission.
The bell housing should be the same. You're probably thinking of the other end of the transmission... there is a difference between the 4WD and 2WD transmission, where the 2WD transmission has an output which goes directly to the driveshaft, while the 4WD transmission has a mounting face for a transfer case, and the output goes into the transfer case... just find a 4L60E from a 2WD vehicle, and spare yourself a lot of hassle.
No , starting with the 1995 Ford Explorer the automatic transmission was electronically controlled
That should be the 700R4 transmission
You wouldn't want to use that particular 4L60E, unless you planned on turning your Camaro into a four wheel drive. That transmission will be designed to be mated to a transfer case, vs. a 2WD transmission, which is designed to be splined directly to the driveshaft.
If it came out of a 2WD vehicle, yes. If it came out a 4WD drive vehicle, you'll have problems. On the 2WD transmission, the driveshaft goes directly from the transmission to the rear axle. On the 4WD transmission, the output shaft from the transmission goes into a transfer case.
It came factory with a 4L60E Transmission.
