The 390 spark plug firing order is ( 1 - 5 - 4 - 2 - 6 - 3 - 7 - 8 ) The distributor rotor turns COUNTER CLOCKWISE The distributor cap is installed with the marked # 1 position facing to the rear and slightly towards the drivers side of the engine The engine cylinders / spark plugs are numbered passenger side front to rear 1, 2,3,4 and on the drivers side 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 front to rear
If this is a 400 cu inch motor the order is 13726548. If this is a 460 cu inch motor the order is 15426378. The distributer rotates counterclockwise
Because when you turn the igniton switch to run it heats up the coil which then in turn goes to the distributer and from the distributer to the spark plugs.
More than likely it is your ignition module on the distributer. if not its the coil.
Spark plug wires go from the distributer to the spark plugs which are located just below the valve covers between the exaust ports.
The spark plug firing order is ( 1 - 5 - 3 - 6 - 2 - 4 ) The distributor rotor turns CLOCKWISE
change spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributer cap, change oil, belt, grease fittings, fuel filter. -all cheap and easy to do.
Where can you find a picture of motor for changing spark plug wires on a 1996 V8 ford explorer?
ok the coil produces spark the distributer directs it but check and see if the cap and rotor are dirty if the coil is bad or if you have a bad ground
on my 1971 ford 302 motor the coil sits right on the intake and held down by a clamp made just for the coil. if your distributer is located directy in front of the motor, the coil should lay about 3 inches back and to the left of the distributer and will be mounted directly under the air filter.
Three on each side of the motor. Follow the spark wires.
