As opposed to a specific computer I'll tell you an ideal one would be...
- A tower/desktop setting. The resources required to author video are so immense that doing such on a laptop overexterts the thresholds on the system, and the problems associated with that are no picnic.
- A generous cooling system. Any of your 'off the shelf' PCs are fine, but it would be nice if there is room/able to install an additional 'extra' fan inside. Remember you can have too much heat, but you cannot have too much cooling. If you have a large kitty to play with there are liquid cooling options available that are space age.
- Lots of RAM. Any computer I buy off the shelf I immediately upgrade the RAM (to the max if I can afford to) before I even turn the PC on. If your video encoding comes out crummy, it's likely a lack of RAM situation, not a processor limitation.
- Intel vs AMD processor folks will argue for days on which one and which particular one is better for video authoring/encoding.
In my experience if you buy a PC off the shelf on the 'nicer side' of the computers available, looking for RAM included most of all that the processor will fall in line.
(they don't build computers with a ton of RAM with a no go processor).
- HDMI high - if the PC off the shelf doesn't include HDMI, and/or a video card of 1 gigabyte or more, get your hands on a better one.
Relatively inexpensive an upgraded video card gives you better videos and the HDMI ensures ease of projection/exports.
- Just like the processor, the hard drive size will fall in line with the RAM.
If you got the cash, spring for a network attached external hard drive. 2 terabytes that stands on it's own is good for back ups, accessing files from any PC in the house, and not draining your computer's resources.
I would refrain from having several programs open while using Sony Vegas.
No Web Browsers, music playing etc. This will speed up the features/changes as you navigate one of the richest video software titles to date.
Adobe Premiere is another title worth checking out.

A Sony laptop for under $1000 would be the best. Laptops with i7 processors and Boost 2.0 are considered to be gaming laptops. Sony brands are among the best laptop brands.
Replacement batteries for a Sony Vaio laptop can be purchased directly from the Sony store or Best Buy. There are also many online only sources such as Amazon, PC Mall, Laptop Battery Depot, Laptop Rescue, Tiger Direct, or even eBay.
