It's hard to generalize ALL metal listeners to having the same or even similar behaviours while listening to metal. Some people believe that metal listeners get "high" listening to metal and just start feeling angry and suddenly wanting to do destructive/evil things. Others believe they are mostly kids that hate everything (school, parents, etc) and therefore listen to metal as a way of feeling like they belong somewhere.
On the other hand, there are studies that show intelligent people (students) who receive high grades in school listening to metal to cope with their stress. Their behavior while listening to metal may be akin to any ordinary person listening to "ordinary" music.
Therefore, the behaviour of listening to metal not something you can identify on the whole but dependent on the individuals themselves.
I personally enjoy metal as as an alternative to my other musical tastes such as electronic, rock, indie, jazz, and occasionally classical (depending on my mood). When I feel upset or angry, it is not unlikely for me to listen to metal if I were to choose. Will I be influenced by the I am hearing on the spot??? Let's hope you're not around me then.....
