The Greatest Conspiracy theory has to be the conspiracy theory proposed by the U.S. Government that 19 Jealous Hi-Jackers conspired from a cave in Afghanistan to take down the Twin Towers in New York City,... and because 16 of the 19 deceased Hi-Jackers were from Saudi Arabia, this was a justified cause for the U.S. Government to order preemptive Military strikes against Iraq, and more recently Afghanistan. -- Why would this Conspiracy theory rank as the Greatest? -- I would think that the reason would be obvious, because since September 11th 2001, the assumed truth of the Conspiracy has affected the lives of every person on Earth to some degree,...

Honestly, you can't just say that one conspiracy is the biggest! For example, the 1947 Roswell incident is a big one. So is the alleged NASA hoax, stating that NASA faked the moon landing and they actually filmed it in one of their studios (which, of course, could not even be done today). Or maybe the JFK assassination one which tries to paint Lee Harvey Oswald as innocent. There is also one involving the death of Marilyn Monroe saying that the U.S. Government had something to do with her death because of her extramarital relationship with John F. Kennedy. Of course, if the government tried to murder every woman he had an affair with, the bodies would certainly stack up noticeably.... But in fact, my favorite conspiracy surrounds the supposed secret death of Paul McCartney of the Beatles. It claims he dies in a car accident at 5 am in the UK in 1966, and was replaced by a perfect duplicate who was also a musical genius.

Probably the nuttiest is the one that says Bush was responsible for 9/11. Why they think he was crazy enough to drop such an anvil on his own foot, I don't know. How he was able and willing to magically create all the evidence of 9/11, but unable to scatter around a few WMDs... that sort of thing.

The most believed would have to be the Bermuda triangle being dangerous. Other well believed ones are the zodiac (horoscopes), numerology (like the number 23), and i am aware this next one may cause controversy but religion is also sometimes covered under this topic, if you accept it as part of the list it would be high if not the top.
