In ancient Egypt, you could sell your body to a priest, who would claim it if you were ever killed. To the Egyptians the body as only a shell; the soul mattered more. Because there was no "reverence for the body as a sacred temple" like other spiritual traditions, Egyptian medicine, consequently, was very advanced.
