Just had this problem my self. I have a 2002 Ford Windstar LX. I was leaking engine coolant. Took it to the repair shop. Come to find out Ford in their infinite wisdom has place a coolant line that runs underneath the intake manifold. It is called a Coolant Bypass Line. Needless to say it cost 450.00 to repair including parts and labor. Per the mechanic Ford has a repair kit that you can buy but has not issued a recall even though it is a known problem.
Good luck I have read you can do it on your own but is a pain in the but.
Yes it can. A faulty thermostat can cause overheating which will cause coolant to be pushed out of the system.
A faulty thermostat in a 2001 BMW 325CI can cause a coolant leak. The coolant may be leaking out a crack in the thermostat or through a warped edge. In some cases the problem may be just a bad gasket and not actually a problem with the thermostat at all.
Any coolant leak can cause an overheat.Any coolant leak can cause an overheat.
No.
The coolant sensor moniters the coolant temperature. A faulty thermostat could cause the engine to run cool.
thermostat stuck
Answercould be:- bad thermostat - bad coolant / distilled water ratio / low levels? - plugged radiator - bad o2 sensor (engine runnin lean) - coolant lines plugged upwhat are the symtoms?i can diagnose better if i knew.yea it could be a number of things but in addition to the answer above you could have air behind the thermostat. if there is an air pocket behind the thermostat instead of coolant the thermostat wont open.
Probably the thermostat is sticking.
A crack near or on the thermostat housing can cause a coolant leak in a 1996 Grand Marquis. The thermostat housing is located near the manifold on this vehicle.
A stuck open thermostat will not allow the coolant to get up to proper temp, thus poor heat from heater. A stuck closed thermostat will not let coolant circulate and will cause the engine to overheat.
If the temp gauge reads normal and the engine is not overheating, the thermostat is doing its job. The thermostat maintains the coolant temp by opening and closing allowing the coolant to flow or not to flow. When it is closed the coolant doesn't circulate.
If the thermostat was not installed correctly, the housing can crack but it would leak engine coolant not oil.
