Saint Thomas More is best known for his moral strength and integrity. He chose death rather than agree to Henry VIII's attempt to alter the Church's view of marriage. He also refused to take a pledge that his loyalty lay with Henry VIII as the head of the church, rather than the Pope.

Thomas More was a renowned English statesman and philosopher known for his book "Utopia," where he proposed an ideal society based on principles of justice and equality. He championed religious tolerance and opposed the absolute power of monarchs, advocating for a more balanced and just government system. For being put to death for refusing the oath of supremacy

Sir (Saint)Thomas More was an English statesman. He was at one point the Lord Chancellor of England. He was the Speaker for the House of Commons.

He was King Henry VIII's best and favourite adviser (as quoted by Henry,) "On light pretexts, by false accusations, they made me put to death another of the most faithful servants I ever had." Talking about Thomas More and Thomas Cromwell. As a catholic he refused to let King Henry VIII become supreme head of the church. Here are some famous quotes:

"I die, the King's good servant, but God's first."

"Master Lieutenant, I pray you see me safe up, but let me shift for myself as best I can."

-Both of these quotes were made as he was going to be executed.

A:

At first, Sir Thomas More was an exponent of limited religious tolerance amongst Christians, at a time when such views were almost unheard of in Western Europe. He wrote

Utopia, a novel about a mythical kingdom where all were free to hold such beliefs as they wished, as long as they believed in a supreme being. Yet within just a few years, he became a harsh persecutor of those he regarded as heretics against the Catholic Church.

Towards heresy More became relentlessly punitive. He wrote, in the

Dialogue, that it was lawful, necessary and beneficial to burn heretics. Ironically, he himself was later executed for his own beliefs as a Catholic in Protestant England.
