Away from the serpentine belt
usually serpentine belts get their tension(tightness) from the belt tensioner
google this. ford-autobestanswer. you will find the diagram picture.
Your Explorer has a serpentine belt tensioner which keeps the proper tension on the serpentine belt unless the tensioner has failed.
i don't know if this will help you, but it helped me. http://www.zx2racing.com/pages/mods/pulley_dia.htm
u need to relaese tension on the tension pulley. this is usually done with a long socket wrench handle. when u release tension and remove belt you then release tension on pulley until you have routed new belt . you then move tension pulley again until you can put belt on it, then release pulley and it will automatically provide correct tension

Put the proper size wrench or socket on the pulley of the tensioner.Pull the wrench counter clockwise to release the tension on the belt.
The 1998 Camry did not have a serpentine belt. Do you have a 1998 Corolla?
Buy a Chevy!!!! That was a big help. Most but not all serpentine belt systems have a spring loaded tension pulley that just holds constant tension on the belt. If there is a tension pulley, it will be the one pulley that is not attached to anything like the alternator or AC. After that, the alternator is the most likely to be the one that adjusts.
I cant help you with a 1995, but when I was looking for a 1994 routing, I found a 1998 diagram of the escort serpentine belt. I found it on about.com under auto repair. http://autorepair.about.com/cs/generalinfo/l/bl_img_ford004.htm There is the link. Good Luck. Hope this can help!!!
For most cars and trucks there is a diagram showing the pattern the belt should take for each pulley. This is usually located under the hood on the radiator support. The vehicles I've had experience with have an idler pulley which supplies tension on the serpentine belt. This pulley is spring loaded, by using the correct size wrench, pull up on the pulley, relieving the tension on the belt and sliding the belt off or on.
How do you route the serpentine belt for a 1998 w
The belt tensioner is rotated clock wise with a 15 mm wrench or belt tool.
the tensionjer is a spring tensioner so if it is to low and not holding tension on the belt you need a new tensioner

Mine came off they said that the tension pully was shot A. 1998 Escort ZX2 Mine kept falling off because there was oil leaking somewhere. The tension pulley was shot too. The oil was leaking out of the crank seal so I had to get that replaced as well as the timing belt and tension pulley. It costed me about $400 to fix all of that! I also am having problems with the Anti theft system and it sometimes doesn't start. This car has been nothing but problems!
